David Foster Walkway Victoria: Safety Blue StreetBond Coatings

The David Foster Walkway runs along Victoria's Inner Harbour — a route that connects residents and visitors to key destinations along one of BC's most-photographed waterfronts. We were brought in to renovate the pathway surface using StreetBond150 coatings in a High Visibility Safety Blue specification.

The project replaced a worn asphalt surface with a bright, durable coating system that reads clearly in Victoria's grey winter light and holds its colour through the salt-air and UV exposure characteristic of a foreshore location.

High Visibility Blue on an Asphalt Path

The Safety Blue colourway was selected for maximum visibility — both for cyclists and pedestrians navigating the shared path, and for the visual contribution the surface makes to the harbour experience.

StreetBond coatings are a two-component system applied directly to the existing asphalt substrate. No demolition, no resurfacing — the existing pavement becomes the base for a new colour and texture layer. The finish incorporates a fine aggregate for slip resistance, which is non-negotiable on a waterfront path that will be wet for months at a time.

Colour retention on StreetBond installations in coastal BC conditions is typically eight to twelve years at full saturation. We've tracked comparable installations on the Sunshine Coast and Lower Mainland that have held up well through multiple cycles of Pacific rain season and summer UV.

The Walkway Network

The David Foster Walkway is part of a broader harbour pathway network that the City of Victoria has been building out over the past decade. Projects like this one demonstrate what's possible when pathway surfaces are treated as part of the urban design — not just functional asphalt, but finished civic infrastructure that signals care for public space.
